City of Limoges - Centres Culturels Municipaux
Organization, France, Limoges
For the past 20 years the collaboration between the Municipal Cultural Centres and the Management of Childhood (Children’s Services) in the City of Limoges has endorsed regular opportunities for companies presenting work for children aged three years and over, either in theatres or in crèches. In addition, cultural centres have been offering training courses for parents with babies and workshops for parents with their children from the age of three.
With the help of the dance company Balabik, the city was introduced to the wider European perspective on early childhood, and in 2007 Limoges delivered “Kaolin and Barbotin”, the city’s first European festival with this specific focus. In 2009, the City of Limoges became the French co-organiser within Small size, big citizens, inviting the company O’Navio to be her associated partner in this venture.
The grouping of the services of the City of Limoges on one hand (Management of Childhood services, crèches, schools, cultural centres, libraries, museums and community centres) and the associative sector on the other hand (Theatre of la Marmaille, Federation of the Laic Works in Haute-Vienne) enables the development of a city-wide reflection on cultural venues’ attitudes towards the young child, and supports the advocacy and productions of shows for toddlers.
