Ion Creangă Theatre is a public performing arts company, a repertory theatre, founded in 1964. Subordinated to the General Council of Bucharest, and subsidised from the local budget, the Theatre creates and promotes performances of high artistic standard, coordinates and implements research programmes, as well as cultural, educational and social projects. Its activity is dedicated to children between the ages of 0 to 12 years old, as well as parents and teachers.
In compliance with its public status, Ion Creangă Theatre pursues a mission based on promoting national artistic potential and cultural heritage, with a strong focus on supporting emerging artists (actors, directors, set designers, playwrights, etc.), and encouraging the development of fresh, innovative approaches in the field of children’s performing arts.
Some of the most important events of each season are: The International Theatre Festival for Children „100, 1.000, 1.000.000 stories“ – aimed at presenting to the Romanian public some of the best shows from all around the world, „Childhood Memories“ Festival, which focuses on bringing art and play together in an beautiful outdoor space and „TIC PITIC“ – a showcase of the theatre’s productions for the very young, that make up the „Early Years Education Program“.
Yearly, more than 50.000 theatre goers attend the performances of Ion Creangă Theatre. Crafted to suit the needs of a young audience that ranges from curious toddlers to independent pre-adolescents, these performances aim to be significant and engaging artistic experiences, inspired by the joy of the magical world of enthusiasm called childhood.
