Company, UK, London
Opening in 1979, Polka Theatre is dedicated to producing and presenting work for young audiences aged 0-13 and welcomes over 100,000 children through its doors each year. With an integrated education and learning programme and the venue’s imaginatively designed outdoor grounds, exhibitions, play areas and café, Polka offers its public a variety of stimulating opportunities with which to engage, in addition to the productions presented in its two theatre spaces.
A significant strand of Polka’s work lies in its long-standing commitment to theatre for early years, which has been further enhanced by Polka’s association, since 2006, with Small size. In 2009, through the Small size, big citizens project, Polka collaborated with UK partners Starcatchers, Sticky Fingers and Theatre Hullabaloo to extend the Small size network of activity across the UK. Each partner within this UK micro-net brings its own expertise and drive to furthering the delivery and profile of theatre and the arts within early childhood.
Polka is the UK co-organiser within Small size, working in association with Starcatchers, Sticky Fingers and Theatre Hullabaloo.
